Abstract

312,707. Petersen, H. P. March 6, 1928. Fuel, feeding.-Combustible material such as coal is pulverized and dried in a mill 1 through which there is induced bv a fan 11 a current of hot gaseous products drawn from the furnace through a pipe 7, this current serving to convey the pulverized, material by a pipe 9 to a separetor 2 from which the coarser particles pass into a hopper 13 while the combustion gases and fine dust are drawn through a pipe 14 into the fan 11 and are ejected by the fan into a mixing pipe 15. A worm 17 conveys the material from the hopper 13 to the mixing pipe 15 whence it is delivered, by the blast from the fan 11, into the furnace 3 through a pipe 16. Adjustable openings 18 in the furnace wall supply the air for combustion. The combustion gases to be returned to the mill are drawn from either or both of two pipes 22, 23 in front of and behind the economizer 19, the supply being regulated by valves 24 so that the temperature of the drying gases may be adjusted. The mill 1 is mounted on hollow trunnions 5, 6 and is fed from a hopper 8.
