Abstract

Impact pulverizers.-A pulverizer for coal or like materials comprises a chamber with a bottom opening occupied by a propeller which prevents the material from settling and forces a current of air through the chamber. As shown, Fig. 1, the chamber A is constricted at K just above the propeller B and provided with an impact member or guard T to prevent direct ejection of the coal &c. through the outlet V at, the top of the chamber. The replaceable blades L of the propeller preferably overlap and may be secured between a flange M on the vertical driving-shaft C and a top flange N by bolts O. In a modification, Fig. 2, auxiliary beaters P are provided on the shaft C above the propeller, and an auxiliary fan U assists the exit of the pulverized material. The steel blades R of the beaters P are square in section and are held adjustably in sockets in the arms of the spider Q by screws S. Preferably, the blades Q are arranged tangential to the shaft. A vertical sluice adjustment is provided in the air inlet H. The coal &c. is fed through a lateral opening G on to the propeller B, and any pieces that may get past the propeller fall down a sloping passage into a receptacle J.
