Abstract
198,582. Tyler, G. M. July 1, 1922. Impact pulverizers.-Relates to apparatus for disintegrating and screening pulverulent material and of the kind in which one or more sets of horizontal beaters, bars, or knives revolve in planes across the direction of feed of the material within a conical or pyramidal screen through which the finer particles pass into an outer casing or hopper while the larger unbroken particles or tailings are intercepted by the screen and pass to a separate receptacle. Means is provided for creating an air current through the artificial manure or other material under treatment to dry the material and prevent clogging of the screen. The air current may be created bv a rotary fan, or by blades or vanes arranged on a rotary part of the apparatus, or by a combination of fan and vanes. The invention is shown as applied to the apparatus described in Specification 5760/13. The fan f is mounted on the vertical shaft c between the beaters d and the intercepting-plate e, and blades or vanes g are provided on the underside of the plate e. The material is fed through a conical hopper h and over a fixed feed-cone i surrounded by a cylindrical casing j. When two sets of beaters, carried by oppositely-rotating shafts mounted one within the other, are employed, the fan blades may be provided on or near the outer ends or any part of either or both sets of beaters, or on the conical rim surrounding the beaters. The fan may be arranged independently of the beaters.
