Abstract
385,374. Ball or tube mills. TOLLEMACHE, H. D., 4, Norfolk Street, Strand, London. Oct. 1, 1931, No. 27310. [Class.59.] In a mill the air-borne pulverized particles are discharged into the separator at a point above the bottom and the coarse particles deposited in the separator are led through a shielded shoot to the bottom from whence they are raised into the discharge passage and are returned by a screw conveyer back to the grinding zone of the mill. As shown in Fig. 1, the rotary drum A is supported on an inlet trunnion A<1> and an outlet trunnion A<2> provided with a scoop H for raising coarse particles from a classifier C to the trunnion, from which it is returned to the drum by a worm G. The free edge of the worm may be provided with a flange G<1>, Fig. 3, or may be inclined to prevent the coarse particles being carried out of the trunnion with the air blast. The classifier comprises a tapered casing provided with partitions D, Fig. 2, converging to a shielded duct D<1> which leads the coarse particles to a recess F in which the scoop H rotates. The ground material is carried by the air blast over the top of the partitions D and around adjustable partitions C<4>, which may be pivoted, to an outlet E.
