Abstract

350,785. Ball or tube mills for grinding, crushing, &c. HARDINGE CO., Inc., 122, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Hardinge, H. ; York, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) July 21, 1930, No. 21946. Convention date, July 22, 1929. [Class 59.] In a ball mill having a conical discharge end, the pulp is strained to separate the pulverized material from the balls and oversize material which are returned to the grinding zone whilst the fines are discharged, this being effected by rotary vanes 16 carrying sieves 17 which lift the material from the bottom of the discharge chamber formed between the wall 22 and the outlet. The fines pass through the sieves and flow without obstruction to the discharge 13. The vanes are associated with troughs 26 which receive the balls and oversize materials and lead them back to the grinding zone. Grilles 18 are secured in front of the sieves 17 to protect them from damage by the balls &c. The sieves are preferably curved and arranged with the concave surfaces leading, and are set substantially parallel to the direction of flow of the material out of the mill. The wall 22 is preferably formed by a number of sector sections, and is conical with its apex towards the grinding zone. The material passes to the discharge through the central aperture 24, but if it is desired to maintain a low pulp-line additional ports 25 are provided.
