Abstract
336,787. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Fuller Lehigh Co.). Oct. 14, 1929. Ball and like mills.-In a tube mill in which the pulverized particles are picked up by passing through the drum and in which a conveyer 22 is located in the outlet from the drum for returning unpulverized material for re-grinding, a baffle 17 is disposed in a conduit leading to the outlet 33 which separates the coarse from the fine material, the former being returned to the conveyer through a conduit 19. The drum 1, which may have a replaceable, segmental, lining 30 is supported on rollers 2 and is driven by gear wheels 3, 4. The material from a hopper 7 is delivered by a rotary disc 8 and passage 9 into the mill where it is ground by the balls 31. The fines are carried off by suction, heated air from a conduit 12 passing through holes 11 in the passage 9 into the drum and out through a hollow trunnion 6, separator 16 and conduit 33. The separator is provided with baffles 17, 18 and the coarse material deposited therein drops into the conduit 19 and is conveyed by a worm 22<1> into an extension of the trunnion 6 from which it is discharged by the conveyer 22, driven by a spider 20 attached to the drum, back to the mill. Doors 32, 34 are provided in the drum and separator respectively and the separator is connected to the drum by a conical sleeve 25 and gland 26. The drum may be enclosed in a dust-tight casing 35.
