Abstract

351,129. Pneumatic separating ; ball grinding mills. WARD, S. A., Wybourn, Cricket Inn Road, Sheffield. April 8, 1930, No. 11078. [Classes 59 and 117.] Apparatus for separating crushed material consists of a vertical passage 21, as shown, through which the material is carried upwardly by air induced by the fan 42, a baffle plate 36, which may be lined with basalt &c. to prevent abrasion, and a series of collecting hoppers 26 in which the coarser constituent of the crushed material is deposited, the finer constituent passing through the fan and being discharged by tangential openings 45 in the casing. The hoppers 26 are formed by inclined walls connecting the outer casing 24 with the outer wall 23 of the central passage, and are provided with spring or gravity controlled discharge ports 29. In the construction described, the separator is mounted on a ball mill as described in Specification 350,964, with which the ports 29 may communicate for returning the coarse particles for retreatment. The shaft 17 which drives the balls 10, and an inner casing 16 with feed distributing plate 18, is hollow and contains the fan shaft 44 which is driven from the mill shaft by the gearing 50, 51, 53, 54.
