Abstract

885,884. Centrifugal separators. SIMON Ltd., HENRY. Oct. 13, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 39036/58. Class 23. In a classifier for separating protein containing material from flour mill stock and comprising a classifying zone bounded by rotary annular walls between which air flows in an inward spiral path to meet an annular curtain of stock which is directed through a gap in one of the walls, the arial spacing of the walls at the outer edge of the zone is less than the arial spacing at the inner edge of the zone. One of the walls has members 20, 26 arranged to form the gap 27 per feeding the stock. The other wall is formed by a plate 39 and an exchangable capping 40. The stock passes through stationary inlets 9 and is whirled by vanes 24 before passing through the gap. A suction is applied to the outlet of the fines receiving chamber 42 to draw air through an annular duct 36 to pass through the zone, the air being spun by vanes 32. The coarse fraction is expelled from the periphery of the zone into an annular collecting chamber 43. The rotor shaft 8 is mounted in bearings 22, 23 and driven by belts. The protein containing material is removed with the fine fraction. Dimensions of the zone are given. Specifications 668,849, 693,999, 694,219 and 795,494 are are referred to.
