995, 281. Preparing fibres for spinning. GIDDINGS & LEWIS-FRASER Ltd. March 14, 1963 [May 1, 1962 ], No. 16561/62. Heading D1N. Apparatus for teasing fibrous material, particularly hard fibres or hard waste, includes a shreading device or blade located between feed mechanism and a pinned cylinder. Induced air currents and centrifugal action are effective to discharge material from the pinned cylinder to an outlet duct. A pinned feed roller 13 defines a nip with the pinned cylinder 14 and a bladed member 15 extends into the nip to an extent that can be adjusted after release of a control screw 19. This screw acts directly on a wedge 18 which, with plates 16, 17, forms a rigid mounting for the bladed member 15. Fibrous material laid on the conveyer 10 passes between fluted feed rollers 12 to the roller and cylinder 13,14. So the cylinder 14 rotates at high speed, it draws the material against the bladed member 15 thus cutting long lengths of material to more manageable size. Worker and stripper rollers 20, 21 act upon the material before it leaves the cylinder 14 under the action of gravity and centrifugal force. From an outlet duct 23 the material passes between an open mesh cylindrical screen 24 and a roller 25 on to a conveyer belt 26 beneath the feed conveyer 10. The apparatus is enclosed in a casing 22 which includes an edge 27 that serves as a stripper to remove material held on the cylinder 14. Examples of roller speeds are given.
