Abstract
574,908. Pneumatic separating. ONTARIO PAPER CO., Ltd. July 1, 1943, No. 10690. Convention date, Aug., 17, 1942. [Class 117] Mixed materials of different density or weight such as wood chips mixed with knots, or steel grit and shot after an air- or sand-blasting operation, are separated into their ingredients by being fed in a curtain from a hopper. 1 in front of a perforated screen 4 through which a current of air is drawn by a fan 5. Preferably, the material is fed by a rotary discharger 2 and falls on to an inclined baffle plate 3 ; the angle of inclination of the plate 3 and screen 4 is preferably about 65 degrees to the horizontal. The heavy material, such as wood knots, passing through the stream is collected in a receptacle 8, and the lighter material is carried through the passage 6 into a chamber 9 where diminution of the velocity allows the material of intermediate weight, such as wood chips, to deposit, and be discharged by a rotary discharger 16. The lightest material, such as sawdust, is carried to 'the exhaust 13 over or through a screen 10 which arrests any chips - that are still air-borne.
