Abstract

779,589. Pneumatic separating. BUHLER, GEB. Aug. 10, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 23075/55. Class 117 Granular material is conveyed in an air stream through an opening 1 and into a chamber 3, and the heavier and larger grains rebound from a deflector plate 2 and fall on to a pivoted flap 5 held by a spring, not shown. When the weight of material on the flap is sufficient the flap opens slightly and material falls as a thin stream 8 to escape from the apparatus through an air lock 18. A curved plate 4 causes a whirling of the material whereby lighter particles such as dust, chaff &c. in the air stream pass upwardly through a channel 7. Due to centrifugal force the fine particles flow along the outer wall of a curved part of the channel and are drawn through an adjustable suction opening 12, and pass through a channel 13 to an outlet 10 connected to a ventilator fan. The clean air stream continues downwardly and then passes through the falling stream 8 and carries away fine impurities upwardly through a channel 9 and the outlet 10. The outer wall 14 of the channel 9 is adjustable by a screw 19 to vary the channel width, and this provides a speed regulation of the air passing through the falling stream 8.
