Abstract
502,766. Pneumatic separating. LEIGHTON, J. M. March 10, 1938, No. 7473. [Class 117] . A pneumatic separator comprises feeding means for the material and a series of air or like jets.arranged at the bottom of an air or gas passage which increases in cross section from the jet at the feed end to the other end, each jet being of such strength and being so directed that a part only of the material is passed on to the next jet, the remainder falling into a receptacle. In the form shown, the material leaving the hopper 1 passes over a roller 2 and shoot 5 to the most powerful jet 6 where a high proportion of the largest bodies drop into the first hopper 23. The remainder passes on and falls into one of the succeeding hoppers excepting the dust, which passes into a collector 18. The intensity of the other jets decreases from 9 to 13. The separation of dust from the particles may be facilitated by their impacts with appropriately placed baffles 8. The air may be circulated in an open or closed circuit.
