Abstract

639,263. Drying cloth. DUNGLER, J. May 15, 1947, Nos. 13166 and 13167. Convention dates, May 22, 1946 and Feb. 21, 1947. [Class 34(i)] A machine for drying cloth in long lengths by blowing air on to it has two sets of blowing nozzles disposed at opposite sides of the rectilinear path of the cloth, directly opposite one another while leaving a space between them for the passage of the cloth which is carried therethrough between two portions of a conveyer. As shown, drying elements 35 having blowing boxes 13 and nozzles 14, which may be telescopic, are located either side of the cloth a and extend over its width. The cloth is made to fall freely through the space between the nozzles 14 by means of an endless band conveyer comprising upper and lower foraminous bands 25 which engage the cloth between them as it enters the casing at 30 and the moist air escapes through the spaces between the nozzles. In a modification the foraminous bands are replaced by rollers located above and below the cloth in the space between the blowing nozzles, the said rollers rotating in synchronism at a peripheral: speed lower than the rate of feed of the cloth. In a second version of this modification the upper rollers rest against the: lower. The rollers may be perforated or have grooves or projections. Specification' 578.735 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises (Cancelled Figs. 1 and 2 not shown) a circular drying machine having a rotary drum provided with blowing boxes and peripheral telescopic nozzles and means for heating air which is supplied through the hollow shaft of the drum. A set of mutually spaced rollers surrounds the nozzles leaving a narrow circular space through which passes the cloth and an endless conveyor band, the cloth being pressed against the band by the air blown from the nozzles. Also described (Cancelled Figs. 9 and 10 not shown) is a rectilinear type of machine in which the conveyer has only lower rollers which may be connected together in pairs, the distance between the lower nozzles and the cloth being greater than the distance between the upper nozzles and the cloth so that the air blown by the upper nozzles presses the cloth against the rollers. It is stated that in the machine having two foraminous conveyer bands the lower conveyer may comprise an endless felt band stretched between the inlet and outlet rollers, the lower drying element 35 being eliminated. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
