Abstract

516,069. Conveyers. CARR, R. G. June 20, 1938, No. 18230. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] Granular, fibrous or leafy material, e.g., grass is dried in an enclosure by a gas varying from almost saturated where the material enters to a hot dry gas where it is discharged, the blast pressure of the gas being such as to hold the material against moving conveying surfaces and to ensure uniform transfer of the material from one section to another. Hot air or superheated steam is blown at 11 up through endless conveyers 3, 9, 10 and is exhausted at 12 for recirculation, part passing through a feeding conveyer 14 with sealing means 18 ... 20 so that the gas passes through it several times before escape. The grass is chopped by toothed wheels 28 with a rotary chain device 30 for clearing the teeth. The grass is lifted frem one conveyer to the lower surface of the next by the gas, a thermostatically-controlled portion of the hot gas passing'directly through the grass as it leaves at 25. Alternatively, a blast 32 lifts grass from a conveyer 3 on to a rotary perforated drum 33 in a casing with an adjustable blind 34 and an airsealing drum 36, the grass passing over the drum to an outlet 50. A rotary tedder 23 is provided. Specification 516,101, [Group I], is referred to.
