Rotary apparatus; air and gases, controlling direction of flow of.-A drying apparatus for materials such as grain comprises a perforate drum a with curved pockets b, c which pick up the material and form a narrow slit d through which the drying-medium passes and adjustable baffles or steam pipes which break the fall of the material. The inlet and outlet chambers f, g are divided by partitions h between which is a series of registers i to direct the drying medium. Cold air may be admitted through an opening k and a fan l assists the draught. When liquid material is to be dried, the lifting-devices may be in the form of scoops q with walls w which prevent the escape of the material from the drum. Moving belts r may be placed within the drum to catch the falling material.
