Air and gases, controlling direction of flow of.- Drying-apparatus comprises a casing containing a drying-chamber having racks 21, 22 for supporting the materials to be dried, and a baffle 29 arranged between the perforated bottom 23 of the drying-chamber and a burner 28 in the lower part of the casing; the burner being placed in lines with an air inlet opening 27 in the bottom of the casing. The products of combustion from the burner pass into the space 36 formed by the baffle and through the spaces 11, 12 between the walls of the casing and the drying-chamber to the outlet pipes 19, 20, the lower ends of which project into the drying-chamber. Drying air is admitted through openings 42 in the opposite sides of the casing, the openings communicating with the space between the bottom of the drying-chamber and the baffle.
