Abstract

327,409. Dellow, H. A. N., Wright, C. M., and Imperial Chemical Endustries, Ltd. Sept. 29, 1928. Haymaking. - In apparatus for drying grass &c. by passing it through a chamber supplied with hot air &c., the hot air enters where the grass &c. is wettest and travels in the same direction as the grass &c. with a temperature not exceeding 200‹ C. and velocity not exceeding 15 feet per second, being passed through the grass &c. several times. Fig. 1 shows grass supplied by a hopper d to a conveyer belt a traversing air-tight compartments e, f, g. Hot air supplied at passes downwards through the grass in compartment g, through pipe p, down through the gasss in compartment e, through pipe q, down through the grass in compartment f, and out through the exhaust m. In a modification, there are four compartments, and the hot air passes upwardly and downwardly through the grass. The grass may be compressed into cakes under a pressure not less than 5 tons per sq. in. for a minimum time of 15 to 20 seconds.
