Abstract
831,215. Dehydrating substances. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A. G. March 11, 1957 [March 10, 1956], No. 7971/57. Class 34(2) Substances, e.g. hydrous ferrous sulphate and Glauber's salt, having a highwater content are dehydrated by subjection in a fluidized bed to gases at a temperature of about 900-1200‹C., the substances being supplied in such quantity that the temperature of the bed is established at about 100-200‹C. due to evaporation of water. Dust from the exhaust gases is mixed with the untreated material to prevent agglomeration. In the embodiment described, untreated material from a hopper 13 is mixed with flue dust from a separator 10 in a worm conveyer 12 and continuously fed on to a grate 7 in a fluidizing chamber 6 where it is subjected to the products from a combustion chamber 1. The dried material is discharged through duct 8 and the gas exhausted through pipe 9 into the separator 10 where the dust is removed for re-use and the gas is exhausted at 14. Thermo-elements 5 and pressure gauges 4 are disposed at various points of the apparatus.
