Abstract

1421394 Preheating granular &c materials POLYSIUS AG 16 Oct 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 48151/73 Heading F4B A travelling grate preheater for granular or pelletized material being fed to a rotary furnace 3 comprises a housing 1 enclosing the pervious travelling grate 8 and defining therewith a drying chamber 9 and a preheating chamber 7, plenum chambers 12 and 11 below said chambers 9 and 7, waste gas openings 21 and 16 in the side walls of said plenum chambers, lines 22 and 17 leading to dust separators 23 and 18 and a flue 26 from chamber 7 with a branch 27 into plenum chamber 12. Flue 26 may be closed by a valve 26a and branch 27 has a damper 29 and an inlet 28 for diluting air. A fan 20 directs gases from separator 18 through a line 19 to the top of drying chamber 9 and another fan 24 directs gases from separator 23 to a waste pipe 25. In the event of a stoppage of the grate 8 the above arrangement enables hot gases from the furnace 3 to be diverted direct to separator 23 avoiding overheating of the grate.
