Abstract
1333478 Incinerators SHIRCO Inc 18 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 15451/71 Heading F4B An incinerator for refuse, particularly sewage sludge, comprises an elongate combustion chamber 12 heated by units 13 including infrared heating lamps, an endless chain belt conveyer which extends throughout the chamber 12, a refuse feeding conveyer 23, and a stack 130 for combustion products and an ash removal system 14 at the discharge end of the combustion chamber 12. The refuse feeding conveyer 23 also includes infra-red heating units 40 to provide preliminary breakdown of the refuse. The combustion products may be partially recirculated through the combustion chamber via a conduit 170 having a control valve 174 and a valve 175 for inlet of tempering air. A fan 80 delivers air through the heating units 13, the heated air therefrom beng passed to the inlet end of the combustion chamber as combustion supporting air. The heating units 13, and valves 174, 175 may be manually and/or automatically operable in response to temperature sensors 200 and 204. The chain belt is supported by air cooled rollers 91 and staggered scrapers are provided above the belt to agitate the refuse during drying and incineration. The stack 130 communicates with gas scrubbers 150, 154.
