Abstract
1531890 Incinerating and drying sewage sludge CLAUDIUS PETERS AG 9 Aug 1976 [9 Aug 1975] 33148/76 Headings F4B and F4G Apparatus for incinerating sludge comprises a combustion chamber 1, a heat exchanger 5 to preheat combustion air, a separator 6 for removing ash from the flue gases, a second heat exchanger 7 preheating and drying the sludge indirectly and means 8 to filter the flue gases prior to discharge. The incinerator may be a fluidized bed furnace. The ashes collected at 6 may be discharged with dirt from the filter 8, and gases given off by the sludge in the drier 7 may be condensed in a preliminary sludge heating stage. The drier 7, Fig. 4, comprises a number of passages 21 through which the sludge is moved by scraper conveyers, the flue gases passing through passages 22 above and below the sludge passages. A partial vacuum may be maintained in the sludge passages.
