Abstract

1415375 Refuse and sludge incinerater; drying sludge EAU ET ASSAINISSEMENT SOC EA 18 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 2570/73 Headings F4B and F4G In an incinerater for solid refuse and sludge, the sludge is partially dried in a heat exchanger 7 out of contact with the hot gases from the combustion of the waste, and the dried sludge is fed to the hot combustion gases coming from the refuse incinerater to burn there. The dried sludge is fed into a flue 3 leading from the incinerater furnace 1 by a water cooled atomizer 21 and fumes collected from the sludge side of heat exchanger 7 are fed into the flue 3, or into the furnace 1 to control the furnace temperature, or through a condenser 42 to the furnace. The heat exchanger 7 comprises a hot gas passage 6 which has refractory lined sides and bottom and a top plate 15 formed of sections 34 with fins 35 extending longitudinally of the passage 6, Fig. 3. Ribs 36 on the top of the plate 15 guide the sludge which is moved along the plate 15 by an endless belt taking device 17. The combustion gases cooled in the heat exchanger 7 pass to a duct extractor 9.
