Abstract
1275304 Refuse incinerators; gas cooling installations F A M FABRY 23 June 1969 [21 June 1968] 31578/69 Headings F4B F4K and F4S A refuse incinerator comprises a combustion grate 4 for supporting the refuse, a combustion chamber 1 having a burner 2 under the grate, said burner being able to provide a sufficient pressure for the combustion gases to pass through the refuse deposited on the grate, a refuse distributer 6 above the grate having apertures therein for allowing the refuse to be directly in contact with ambient hot gases, a feed hopper 7 for the distributer 6, a receptacle 3 placed under the grate 4, and flaps 5 arranged on the periphery of the grate in such a way that the hot combustion gases can pass directly from the combustion chamber around the periphery of the distributer in the event of the pressure of said gases exceeding a predetermined value. A second combustion chamber 10, located above the distributer 6 and comprising two spaced members 9a and 9b, is used to destroy quantities of liquid introduced into the said chamber through a conduit 11 controlled by a valve 12. The exhaust gases from the incinerator pass via a conduit 18 into a chamber 19 for heat treatment to eliminate the instable or combustible components and into further chambers (35, 37, Fig. 2) to effect a hydrous treatment of the gases in order to rid the gases of components absorbent of water, more especially anhydrides and acids. The furnace can be automatically regulated by means including an adjustable thermostat placed at the outlet 28 of the chamber 19 or at the outlet of a heat exchanger (30) positioned after the chamber 19. In order to automatically remove the refuse from the base of the grate 4, a series of curved bars 87 can be slid into the refuse products, the bars travelling between several pairs of grooved rollers 88. The grate 4 is divided into two parts 79, the parts being slid to the vertical position by connecting rods 81 being drawn along a horizontal slide 83. With the receptacle 3 similarly constructed and working in conjunction with the grate, the material supported on the grate but below the bars 87 will drop into disposal means situated below the incinerator.
