Abstract
270,503. Marston, H. A. June 3, 1926. Continuous - discharge. apparatus, rotary; air and gases, controlling direction of flow of; chambers, details of construction of. - Rotary drying apparatus comprises an inclined cylinder 3, which is divided into longitudinal cells, and which is provided with an enlarged section having a funnel-shaped baffle 5 to the outer surface of which spiral vanes 5<a> are secured, and an external furnace which communicates through an opening in the brickwork enclosure with the space between the brickwork and the cylinder. In use, the material to be dried is fed through a shoot 11 into the upper end of the cylinder and passes through the longitudinal cells into the enlarged section in which it is directed by the vanes over the outside of the baffle to the cells in the lower end of the cylinder from which it, passes into the discharge conveyer 13. The furnace gases flow through a conduit 4 into the cylinder and pass therethrough to the exhaust fan 8 in countercurrent to the material. Cold air for combustion may be preheated by passage through the cylinder.
