Abstract

553,924. Preheating and cooling charges. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., E., and HOWDEN, P. Jan. 21, 1942, No. 867. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] Crushed stone, ore or the like to be preheated or dried falls from a hopper 47 through a bifurcated shoot 42 to the spaces between walls of louvred grids 34, 35, through which flow hot gases from a centre chamber 36 to outer chambers 37 terminating at the top in an exhaust chamber 41 surrounding the bifurcated shoot. The hopper is closed by counterweighted hinged doors 43. The discharge of the material is controlled by a sliding plate 50 with openings corresponding with the spaces between the grids. The apparatus may be employed for cooling hot materials discharged from a rotary kiln by admitting cooling air or gases through the chamber 36.
