580,583. Cooling cement clinker &c. FULLER CO. Sept. 23, 1944, No. 18209. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1943. [Class 51 (ii)] In apparatus for cooling cement clinker or other material discharged from a rotary kiln 1 of the kind described in' Specifications 519,018 and 519,057, sudden cascading of the hot material is prevented by forming all the fixed and moving grates 16, 17 or, as shown, only those adjacent the inlet end of the cooler, with toe portions 54 the upper surfaces of which are upwardly inclined at an angle of from 20‹ to 30‹ to the horizontal. Both the toe portions 54 and the horizontal parts of the grates are provided with upwardly tapering apertures 60 for the passage of cooling air.
