[Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group XII] A rotary cooler, including a rotary shell into which air must be introduced during operation, is characterised in that a fan or the like for supplying the air is mounted on the shell and connected to a windbox which encircles the shell and from which the air passes through the shell by one or more openings in its wall. In a cooler shown applied to a rotary cement kiln, motor driven fans 29 supply air to an encircling windbox 20 from which damper controlled ducts 31 discharge the air below inclined grates 32. Spring loaded arms 42 normally maintain the dampers in a closed or almost closed position, but contact of said arms with an adjustable cam track 44 ensures admission of air through the cylinder. A modification is described in which cooling chambers are disposed circumferentially of and parallel to the outside of the shell, and in this case the chamber containing the fans and motor lies parallel to and between two of the cooling chambers.
