Abstract

837,883. Cooling cement clinker &c. ZEMENTAULAGENBAU DESSAU VEB. [formerly MASCHINENFABRIK POLYSIUS]. July 16, 1956, No. 21995/56. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for cooling cement clinker discharged from a pulverulent fuel-fired rotary kiln 1 comprises a shoot 4 formed with air nozzles 5 leading to a spiral wall 10 formed with air nozzles 11 and disposed above a basketshaped rotary grate opening into a cylindrical shoot 12. Cooled clinker from the latter falls on to a rotary plate 13 having an adjustable plough 15 guiding it into a hopper 16 from which it falls on to an endless conveyer 17. The rotary grate comprises separate rings 7, 8 and 9 in which or between which air slots are formed and the said rings may be rotated independently of one another in direction or speed. Cooling air is supplied through the nozzles 5 and 11 through the grate and through ports 14 in the shoot 12. A cylindrical baffle 28 extends downwardly in the cooling chamber to touch the clinker or the grate and radial partitions extending outwardly of its wall divides the cooling chamber into sections 18 and 19, the former supplying heated combustion air to the kiln. Passages controlled by valves 30 allow air to pass from the cylindrical baffle 28 to the sections 18 and 19. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the plate 13 is replaced by a rotary frusto-conical grate built up of separate rings. A further modification, Fig. VI, has a single rotary ring 7 disposed above a hopper 32 leading to the central shoot 12 having a concentric inner shoot defining an air space 34. A further modification, Fig. VII (not shown), has an annular cooling cylinder below the rotary ring 7.
