Abstract
863,583. Shaft furnaces. ROEHLING'SCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE, G.m.b.H. July 12, 1957 [July 14, 1956], No. 22181/57. Addition to 704,330. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). The process for heating solid material in a shaft furnace or the like disclosed in the parent Specification is modified by continuously circulating the heating gases in a closed system incorporating heating means for said gases which pass transversely and in opposite directions through the furnace shaft in two zones substantially equally dividing the roasting zones. Apparatus carrying out the invention comprises a shaft 1 bounded on two opposite sides by pairs of gas collecting and distributing chambers 2 and 3, and 4 and 5 respectively of substantially equal size. The pairs of chambers are interconnected by ducts incorporating combustion chambers 8, 81 each with a burner 10 supplied through a duct 11 with hot air derived from cooling the charge leaving the foot of the shaft. The heating gases are continuously circulated in the direction shown by the arrows by venturiinjector devices 6, 61 each incorporating a gas supply jet 7.
