Abstract
751,677. Cooling discharged materials. POLYSIUS GES. July 8, 1954, No. 20072/54. Class 51(2). Apparatus for cooling granular &c. material discharged from rotary &c. furnaces comprises a stepped grate of the type having alternate fixed and reciprocating bars, in which the grate is divided into two sections a and b disposed over a plenum chamber divided into three sections f, g and h. The plates have apertures running obliquely upwards oppositely to the direction of flow of the discharged material and decreasing in cross-section upwardly, Fig. 3 (not shown). The grate bars are inclined at an angle less than the angle of repose of the material and the two grate sections are reciprocated at speeds varied to give a thin layer of material on the upper section and a thicker layer on the lower section. The chamber f is supplied by a fan with atmospheric air or warm waste air or both and the chambers g and h with atmospheric air by a separate fan, Fig. 2 (not shown). A port m opens into a chimney taking part of the hot waste air, the rest passing as shown by the arrow to the furnace. Part of the waste air from the chimney comprises that supplied to the chamber f.
