821,687. Step-by-step conveyers. SMIDTH & CO. A.S., F. L. Jan. 20, 1956, No. 2025/56. Class 78 (1). [Also in.Group XII] Cement clinker is delivered from a kiln through a shaft 1 on to a gas-permeable support 2 constructed as described in Specification 642,426 and is moved over it by reciprocating wedge-shaped members 3. These members are connected to a frame 4 resting on rollers 5 which is reciprocated by an eccentric and connecting rod mechanism. Clinker falls from the support 2 on to a similar support 2<SP>1</SP> over which it is propelled by members 3<SP>1</SP> which are reciprocated at a rate lower than that of the members 3. Chambers 19, 20 which are separated by a wall 13 provided with an opening 14, are disposed below the supports 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, respectively. Air, or other gas under pressure, is supplied to the chamber 19 through an opening 12. Some of this gas passes up through the clinker on the support 2 and cools it, and some passes through the opening 14 into the chamber 20 to cool the deeper layer of clinker on the support 2<SP>1</SP>. The air, which has been heated by the clinker, may pass through the shaft 1 and be used as secondary air for combustion in the kiln. The apparatus may be used for cooling hot agglomerate or lime.
