Abstract

799,319. Cooling cement clinker &c. SMIDTH & CO. AKTIESELSKABET, F. L. Feb. 1, 1957 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 3625/57. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for cooling cement clinker, sintered ore or burnt lime discharged from a rotary furnace 1 comprises a refractory lined casing 10 divided by a pervious support 13 incorporating reciprocable conveyer shoes 14, a shoot 50 feeding partly cooled clinker on to said support as a bottom layer 19b, and a duct 5 through which hot clinker 53 falls forming a top layer 19a. At the discharge end, an adjustable stripper blade 18 divides the two layers, layer 19b falling over a saddleback surface 26 down side shoots 29 on to a discharge conveyer 31. Clinker falling into the plenum chamber 11 is fed through the end wall 17 by a pair of screws 16 forming piles 32 from which it also falls by shoots 34 on to conveyer 31. The top layer 19a passes over the stripper blade 18, through a grating integral therewith which removes lumps 21, on to a sieve 37, from which medium sized clinker falls down a shoot 41 on to a drag chain 43 which conveys it to a shaft 48 up which it is lifted by a bucket conveyer discharging into the shoot 50. Fines collecting on a shelf 40 below the sieve 37 are also fed to the conveyer 31. Part of the air passing through the clinker is fed into the furnace is secondary combustion air, and part is bled off through a valve-controlled vent 56. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), material passes from the sieve 37 on to a transverse drag chain, and a second drag chain feeds it direct to the shoot 50. In a further modification, the layer 19b falls on to a grate 65 and is given a further cooling by air supplied through a pipe 67, said air passing off through a duct 68 to waste. The vent 56 is eliminated, and the grate 20 is fixed. A final modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), has an endless chain grate in place of the support 13.
