Abstract

395,619. Sintering-apparatus. GREENAWALT, J. E., 135, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 23, 1933, No. 2153. [Class 82 (i).] The material discharged from a rotatable sintering pan 1 is received in a hopper 5 fitted at the lower end with a crusher 6 which feeds the material over superposed screens 7, 8, the " fines " which fall into the bopper 9 being cooled by water from a spray 27 and the steam thereby produced passing, together with air entering the discharge hood 12, upwardly through the mass of material in the hopper 5. A second water spray 26 is fitted in the hopper 5 which communicates, through pipes 17 at its upper end, with a partitioned dust-depositing chamber 14, the cleaned gases being drawn off through pipes 18, flue 20, and chamber 21 by a fan 23 which delivers them to the stack 25. The screens 7, 8 deliver into a wagon C, while the cooled fines are discharged on to a conveyer 10 which returns them to the raw material supply to be mixed with unsintered material.
