833,477. Cooling cement clinker. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. Jan. 25, 1957, No. 2746/57. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for cooling cement clinker discharged from a rotary furnace 1 comprises an air-cooled continuous grate 4 in a casing divided into two upper sections 35, 35a by a vertically adjustable partitions 24, the plenum chamber below the upper run of the grate being divided by partitions 22 and provided with a screw 25 for the discharge of material passing through the grate. Forwardly of the latter is a separate plenum chamber 19 operated at a pressure sufficient to fluidize the clinker above it, and divided by longitudinal partitions into compartments each formed with a shoot controlled by twin flaps 21. Incoming hot clinker is distributed by a plate 5 in the shoot 3 oscillatable about a longitudinal axis, and over the chamber 9 is a baffle 10 and a regulator 11 controlling the depth of the clinker. The latter passes over hollow ploughlike members 15 and cooled material passes over a stripper plate 27, through a heater mill 28, a grating 29, and a shoot 30 on to a discharge conveyer 26. Slightly heated air passing through the flue 34 is filtered, further compressed and supplied to the plenum chamber 19. The distributing plate 5, regulator 11 and members 15 are fluid-cooled. Each member 15 comprises a suspended tube 16, Fig. 6, and hollow members 17 formed with ports 18 for the passage of the coolant, e.g. air or water. on to the clinker.
