Abstract

849,968. Drying granular &c. materials. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B. March 23, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 9943/59. Class 34(2) Granular material 'is dried by passing in a zigzag stream over superposed perforate plates 9, Fig. 1, forming the false bottoms of trough-like members having material inlet and outlet openings 6, 7 respectively, the drying and the movement of the material over the plates being effected by hot air supplied by fans 11 to the spaces beneath the plates. The depth of the material is regulated by adjustable members 14 and the rate of travel is controlled by a rotary member 30 in the outlet 29. The air passing through the material leaves the trough-like members through apertures 12, Fig. 2, and enters a chamber 21 having a screen 22 for separating material from the air. The air is recirculated by the fans which communicate with the chamber 21 through ducts containing heaters 18, Fig. 3, and with the spaces beneath the perforate plates. A part of the air is discharged to atmosphere through an outlet 32 in the uppermost trough-like member and an outlet 26 in the chamber 21, while fresh air is admitted through adjustable openings 28 in the chamber. The uppermost troughlike member functions as a preheater for the material and the lowermost as a cooler, the air from the latter passing to the member immediately above.
