Abstract

1449372 Drying particulate material; fluidized beds ANHYDRO AS 6 May 1974 [10 May 1973] 19920/74 Headings F4G and F4U A fluidized bed apparatus 1 comprises a perforated distribution plate 2 arranged for the passage therethrough of a gas for the fluidization of a material deposited thereabove and a plurality of pairs 3, 6; 4; 7 of dividing plates, each pair comprising one dividing plate 3, 4 above the distribution plate 2 and the other dividing plate 6, 7 below the distribution plate 2 at the same position. The dividing plates 3, 4; 6, 7 abut against the distribution plate 2 and extend away from and across the distribution plate 2. The dividing plates 3, 4 above the distribution plate 2 are removable from abutment against the distribution plate and both dividing plates of at least one pair are adjustable in position along the distribution plate. As shown the dividing plates 3, 4 are mounted on arms 20, 21 which extend through respective bores in rotatable shafts 22, 23, the arms 20, 21 being held adjustably in the bore by screws (see more particularly Fig. 2, not shown). Alternatively the arms may be adjustable by rack and pinion devices. The apparatus also comprises a powder bin 14 from which particulate material flows into a moistening section A for agglomerating the particles, a drying section B into which heated air is blown, a cooling section C and a discharge section 13, 13a. Any particles which remain separate are returned through a line 16 to the moistening section via a valved outlet powder separator 18. A wall 5 is pivotable to allow material to be cleared from the distribution plate.
