Abstract
1,214,375. Treating granular material; heating, cooling and drying granular material. KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ A.G. 8 March, 1968 [4 April, 1967], No. 11295/68. Headings F4B, F4G and F4U. In apparatus for drying, calcining, burning or cooling granular material comprising a vertical shaft subdivided by constrictions 1 into a series of sections 2, the treatment gas, e.g. not waste gas from a rotary kiln 3, as shown, flows upwardly through the chambers 2 in vortex formation as indicated by the direction of the arrows. The granular material, which is first introduced through a charging opening 6 and entrained by the stream of gas and separated out in cyclones 5, is then passed through feed shafts 8 into the upper chamber 2. Vertical gravity shafts 10 transfer the material thrown outwardly by the whirling motion of the gas from one chamber to the next. Each shaft 10 has its inlet opening 9 formed by a slide 11 which is adjustable in height, and members (not shown) are provided to vary the crosssection of the shaft 10 at the upper and or lower ends as required.
