Abstract

1,059,471. Drying suspended solids; heating or cooling particulate solid materials. SCHœCHTERMANN & KREMER-BAUM A.G. FUR AUFBEREITUNG. May 21, 1964 [June 4, 1963], No. 21113/64. Headings F4G and F4U. Solids to be heated, cooled or dried are introduced through sluices 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and are supported in a stream of gas tangentially introduced through slots 2, 2<SP>1</SP> in the upper end of a vertical turbulence chamber 1 for passage in a helical path downwardly to a closed trap 9 at the lower end of the chamber, in countercurrent to a stream of heated or cooled gas tangentially introduced through a central feed pipe 7 at the lower end of the chamber, which heated or cooled gas has a lower kinetic energy than the supporting gas stream but is given the same direction of rotation as the supporting gas. The mixture of supporting and heating or cooling gas free from solids is discharged through a central aperture 1<SP>111</SP> at the upper end of the chamber. Additional heating or cooling air may be tangentially introduced through inlet channels 12.
