Abstract

1486555 Drying tea B N SHEADER 16 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 43983/73 Heading F4G A tea drying apparatus comprises a plurality of perforate surfaces 5, 6, 7, means, e.g. a fan 8, for passing a current of air upwardly through each surface so that, in use, tea to be dried will be maintained by the currents of air in a fluidized state, means by which the tea, in use, is caused to travel across each perforate surface in turn and means, e.g. heaters 13, 14, 15, for heating each current of air and control means for maintaining the currents of air at different predetermined temperatures. The means by which the tea is caused to travel may comprise angled perforations in the surfaces and/or vibrators vibrating the surfaces (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). As shown the surfaces are at different levels but they may be at the same level and be separated by weirs (Fig. 2, not shown). The used gas passing through the outlet 17 may be recirculated after dehumidification thereof. The inlet 3 and outlet 4 of the apparatus are sealed by rotary members 20, 21. Agitators may be provided to assist in keeping the perforations free from clogging with tea.
