Abstract

916,978. Drying granular materials. FLEISSNER G.m.b.H., [trading as FLEISSNER & SOHN G.m.b.H. & CO.]. July 8, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 23478/59. Class 34 (2). A drying apparatus for granular material comprises at least two paths of conveyance for the material situated one above the other within a drying chamber and formed by two or more perforated supporting surfaces for vibrating and conveying the material, means for causing a drying medium to flow about and/or through the material while on the supporting surface within the chamber which is subdivided into at least two zones through each of which the medium flows, being driven by a fan disposed on at least one side of each path. A drying apparatus comprises superposed perforated vibrating tracks la, 1b, 1c, Fig. 2, of arcuate shape, the material passing in series downwardly to the next adjacent track and fans 10 on both sides of the paths pass air over radiators 11 downwardly through the apparatus to a lower suction chamber 4. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), two vibrating tracks and a plurality of fans on one side only of the paths are provided, and in a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a fan is provided for each of two paths, but on different sides, the air flows being separated by a partition between the tracks. In another form, air from fans 10, Fig. 5, at one side only of the tracks is heated by radiators 11 and divided by partitions 15 into component streams, each of which pass through one path and recirculate back to the fan. In a final modification a perforated spiral vibrating trough 6, Fig. 7, is mounted in a tower which is subdivided into drying zones of several turns of the trough, each zone having a fan 10. An imperforate vibrating trough is provided in the boundary layer between each zone to prevent air passing to the next fan except by passing through the perforations of the trough 6.
