Abstract

1,044,749. Calcining; heating and cooling particles; furnaces for treating materials in suspension. FLOTAX-ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 5, 1964, No. 31910/64. Headings F4B, F4G and F4U. In apparatus for calcining or heating solid particles, the material passes by gravity through a chamber from an upper preheating zone, an intermediate calcining or heating zone wherein burners 20 are positioned to a lower cooling zone, and the material is caused to fall in a sinuous path in countercurrent to the hot gases through the zones by partitions 14 of porous refractory material mounted on alternate walls. Each partition has an inlet 17 therein for a flow of cool air both to maintain the partitions in a cool condition and also to fluidize the material on their upper surface to produce a smooth continuous flow of the particles through the chamber. The walls 18 of the chamber have porous, lowdensity brick walls 19 inwardly spaced therefrom for the passage into the chamber of preheated air. The inclination of the partitions may be adjustable.
