Abstract

6702. Sutton, G. W. March 17. Carrier bands; plate and scraper apparatus.- Tea is dried in apparatus wherein it is first carried over heated plates 3 by lifting scrapers 5, 6 and afterwards passes over trays 7 moving over heated coils 4. The plates and coils are connected with a coil or other boiler so that steam or hot water passes first through the plates and afterwards through the coils, return being prevented by a non-return steam trap and check valve. A vibrating feed hopper 13 and a discharge hopper 14 are provided, air entering at the latter being heated by coils 9 included in the heating circuit. The air is drawn through the apparatus by a fan horizontally so that the moist air from one layer of material does not interfere with other layers..The scrapers 5, 6 are curved and of two sizes, attached by cranked rods to a chain 22, Fig. 6, and having rollers 20, 21 which move on discontinuous racks so that the scrapers alternately push the leaf forward and spread it evenly. Specifications 3228/90, [Class 86, Mixing &c.]. 6442/92, 14,203/93, 1866/94, 9665/96, and 3360/08 are referred to.
