Abstract

489,710. Drying poultry manure. PEMBERTON, J. A., and ALEXANDER, G. C. Feb. 2, 1937, No. 3033. [Class 34 (ii)] Poultry manure is dried by being passed through a rotary drum having longitudinal lifting vanes and radiant heating means. The manure is fed between a pair of rollers B<1> or between fixed and rotary fingers on to a conveyer by which it is delivered into a rotary drum having lifting vanes provided, if desired, with spaced ledges at their free ends and heated by a refractory block E on to which the flames from oil &c. burners D are directed. The dried manure is delivered by a reciprocating shoot H<1> into a grinding mill J and withdrawn therefrom pneumatically by a fan K and delivered into a separator M. From the separator the dried manure falls onto a conveyer N and is fed to hoppers P discharging into cartons Q. The mill may consist of a chamber having a rotary shaft carrying pivotally-mounted hammers and a screened outlet to the fan.
