Abstract

633,292. Drying fabrics. HUNT & MOSCROP, Ltd., and SHARPE, J. Feb. 18, 1948, No. 4690. [Class 34(i)] In a machine for drying fabrics in long lengths of the type in which the material is traversed by a conveyer continuously in open width form through a drying chamber, the material passing first through an upper compartment and returning through a lower compartment while fans blow warm air on to the material, a common fan scroll is employed for each pair of fans respectively serving the upper and lower compartments, the two air streams from the fans being completely isolated by the scroll one from the other. The material A to be dried is traversed longitudinally through the machine by an endless conveyer B, the material passing from the upper compartment C<SP>1</SP> to the lower compartment C<SP>2</SP> around a guide pulley a, the compartments being separated by a longitudinal division plate C and batteries of heating tubes c are arranged in each compartment. The fans are arranged along one side of the machine, one fan D<SP>1</SP> serving the upper compartment C<SP>1</SP> and the other fan D<SP>2</SP> the lower compartment C<SP>2</SP>, each pair of fans D<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>2</SP> being located in one housing and having a common scroll D which has extensions d to the upper and lower opposite corners respectively of the fan hoursing. A chamber E with longitudinal orifice e<SP>1</SP> above the plate C is arranged adjacent and communicating with fan D<SP>1</SP> and there is a corresponding chamber E<SP>2</SP> with orifice e<SP>2</SP> immediately below plate C. The air for drying the material in the upper compartment C<SP>1</SP> is directed from fan D<SP>1</SP> by the scroll around the heating tubes c and after passing through and around the material is drawn into the chamber E<SP>1</SP> for recirculation by the fan D<SP>1</SP>. Similarly in the lower compartment the air leaves fan D<SP>2</SP> and returns through chamber E<SP>2</SP>. Usual means may be provided for withdrawing a proportion of the circulating air and supplying fresh air to the fans. Specification 570,774 is referred to.
