[Class 59.] In an impact pulverizer in which beaters are arranged to revolve in opposite directions, the beaters revolve about an axis which is below the axial centre of the pulverizing chamber. The beaters 63, 53 rotate in opposite directions and are mounted on a shaft 11 and sleeve 41 respectively, the sleeve 41 being driven from the shaft 11 by epicyclic gearing 65. The shaft 11 is mounted eccentrically in relation to the chamber 7 which is fitted with wearresisting plates. Material from a hopper 17 is fed by a screw 19 to an opening 27 and on its way passes over a recess 29, Fig. 2, in which tramp metal &c. is deposited, this recess may be covered by a slide 83 when air, through an inlet 25, is insufficient to carry the material to the opening 27 during fine grinding. The material drops on to a bar 31 and falls on to the paddles. The pulverized material is drawn by a fan 71 through an opening around the sleeve 41 into an enlargement 75 of the inlet to the fan, a rejector 77 being fitted to revolve in the opening and return oversize particles. The enlargement 75 forms a separator wherein the heavy particles are returned to the pulverizer. An air regulator 81 is fitted in the enlargement to regulate the fineness of the pulverized material.
