Impact pulverizers.-Apparatus for pulverizing coal &c. comprises a rotor and stator, or two oppositely moving rotors, each provided with a large number of vanes so that the angle between the vanes is small, the vanes being of uniform shape from end to end with their broader and operative faces parallel to the axes of the rotor and stator, or rotors, and moving rapidly relatively to and in close proximity to one another, a closed casing containing the rotor and stator, or rotors, and provided at one end with means for supplying the material to be pulverized, an air inlet at the same end, and a fan which may be mounted on the rotor shaft for causing air and suspended material to traverse the casing longitudinally of the rotor. The coal &c. is fed from a hopper 1 to a cylindrical casing 6 and is drawn by a fan 7 at the opposite end thereof first past preliminary crushers 10 and then past rotary vanes 12 mounted on a shaft 3 and operating between stationary vanes 13 fixed to the casing. The preliminary crushing may be dispensed with or performed in a separate machine. The vanes may be so arranged that the air current helps to rotate them.
