Abstract
230,436. Raymond Bros. Impact Pulverizer Co., (Assignees of Crites, J.). March 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Impact pulverizers.-A pulverizer-mill of the impact type is so constructed that the devices for pulverizing the material and for delivering it from the pulverizing-chamber are directly effective for their purpose in either direction of rotation of the driving-shaft. The mill comprises a feeding-compartment 10, Fig. 1, a beaterchamber 11, and a fan chamber 13, through which extends the driving-shaft 14 supported in bearings 15 and driven in either direction through a coupling 16 from a reversible motor 18. The swing hammers 38 are pivotally mounted on the shaft 14 and close to the shaft by means of collars 39 and pins 40, the pins being held in position by removable rings 41. The housing 12 for the beater-chamber 11 comprises a base-plate 42, Fig. 2, having a thin liner 43 and a framework comprising a number of castings 44 secured together to form the body of the housing, one or more steel plates 45 being interposed between the castings and the liners 46. Two pockets 47, 48 are provided at the bottom of the chamber 11 to trap pieces of metal &c. The pockets are for alternative use, depending on the direction of rotation of the shaft 14, the pocket not in use being closed by an adjustable liner 49 pivoted on a removable plate or door 51. A wedge 55 for adjusting the liner 49 is operated by means of a screwed rod 56, and a set-screw 54 limits the upward movement of the liner. The removable door or plate 50 adjacent the pocket 47 is interchangeable with the door 51 and is provided with a thin liner 52. When the direction of rotation of the shaft 14 is to be reversed, the doors 50, 51 are interchanged. A regulator consisting of four radial plates 58 is mounted on the shaft 14 in the conical extension 57 at the discharge side of the chamber 11. The ends of the plates extend to within a short distance of the conical ring 59, and the plates are adjustable longitudinally and, preferably, radially of the shaft 14. A high-pressure fan with long blades 60 held in radial position upon the shaft 14 by angle-pieces 61, Fig. 3, is mounted within the chamber 13, which has a radial discharge duct 62 leading into a conduit 63. Atmospheric or pre-heated air is admitted to the chamber 11 by a pipe 66 provided with a baffle-plate 67 and an adjustable damper 68, and a further supply is admitted to the chamber 13 through an opening 64 controlled by a slide 65. The fuel is fed from the hopper 19 to the chamber 11 by a pocketed feed-wheel 21 mounted on a shaft 22 which carries ratchet-wheels 26 at its ends. Bellcrank levers 27 carrying pawls 28 to engage the wheels 26 are oscillated on the shaft 22 bv rods 29 connected to crank-heads 30 on a shaft 31 driven through worm gearing from a shaft 34 driven by a belt from the shaft 14. The hopper is fitted with a regulating slide. 20, and a pivoted flap 23 between the wheel 21 and the hopper is adjustable by means of a link 24 and pin 25.
