632,959. Grinding mills. PLURO, Inc. April 9, 1947, No. 9426. Convention date, April 9, 1946. [Class 59] A method of comminution comprises hurling the material to be reduced centrifugally under vacuum against an impact surface disposed substantially normal to the trajectory of the material and passing a cooling fluid adjacent to the trajectory of the material and the region of impact thereof. Material fed down from a hopper H on to a hub 43 of a rotor R is guided by shaped vanes 44 on the rotor to radial hurling vanes 40, formed with overhanging lips. 42 and being provided with wear strips 41 on their operative faces, which vanes fling the material against a surrounding serrated and bevelled impact ring I, whence the comminuted material is deflected downwards through an annular discharge conduit 31 into a suitable collector, the conduit 31 being agitated by electromagnetic vibrators 33 to prevent particles adhering to its walls. Cooling oil from an inlet pipe 29 is conveyed through bores in a. rotor shaft 18, radially along bores in the rotor plate lying under the hurling vanes 40 and back along closely adjacent other radial bores in the rotor plate R to an outlet 30. Cooling fluid is also passed through a channel behind the surface of the impact plate I. Cooling air from a fan 36 passes inside a casing 21 over a rotor motor 22 and over the vibrators 33. The mill is maintained under a substantial vacuum by suction from a pipe 28.
