Abstract

314,483. Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co., (Assignees of Schwantes, J. A.). June 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Soaps, powdered, shredded, and granulated. - Soap powder or shreds are made by allowing finely divided liquid soap to descend against an ascending current of heated air, the air-current being reversed adjacent the shredder by means of a fan, and the air being freed from entrained particles before discharge 'to the atmosphere. For example, liquid soap is fed by a pipe 14 to a shredder 10 comprising oppositely rotating concentric heads 15 as described in Specification 314,484. The soap particles fall through a chamber 11 against a current of air heated to 125‹ F. by passage over heaters 19 before entering the chamber 11 through ports 20 formed by stamping out louvres so that the air is given a centrifugal motion and prevents deposition of the soap particles on the chamber walls. The particles are discharged by a valve 29 on to a conveyer 30 passing through a cooling chamber 31. The air passes to the fan 32 by a pipe 35 and a cyclone separator 34 in which entrained soap particles are deposited. A fan 37 is attached to a moving part of the shredder 10 as described in Specification 314,484 to direct the neighbouring air downwards and so prevent deposition of soap particles thereon. Choking of the ports 20 is prevented by a revolving cleaner.
