Abstract

665,185. Drying apparatus. NIELSEN, C. F. May 31, 1950 [May 31, 1949], No. 14560/49. Class 34(ii) Apparatus for drying fibrous or granular materials comprises a drum 4 with plate-like elements 14 arranged in axially spaced relation so as to rotate therewith and shaped so as to define a spiral or sinuous drying path through which the material passes entrained in a stream of heated air drawn through the apparatus by a fan 33 to a discharge hopper 35. Each of the elements 14 comprises an annulus which is radially split, dished and helically curved with the separated ends offset and mounted on a hollow shaft 6 through which the heated air reaches the drum, entering by ports 12 and leaving by ports 13. Ribs or blades 17 are mounted on the inner wall of the drum to agitate the material. The drum axis may be inclined and its direction of rotation may either aid or impede progress of material through it. Specification 426,951 is referred to.
